Honestly, there are so many As Seen On TV products that really have not worked for the better for the dollar. In the case with the ones for cooking, they have worked nicely. The Power Pressure Cooker XL has been one of the most innovative devices that I have seen made with simplicity & convenience. Especially when most people haven't used regular pressure cookers for the stovetop. But trying to see that there can be a good cookbook for pressure cookers, is a much harder task. The Complete Power Pressure Cooker XL Cookbook is actually alright & has a lot of great recipes that do work for time, convenience & durability. However, there is one major disadvantage to the cookbook that doesn't make it strong enough compared to other cookbooks on the market. You do not have any picture of the dishes that you are trying to prepare from the cookbook in there. So you do not know how the food will come out after it is prepared. While it does give good recipes for pasta dishes, rice dishes & meat dishes, it could've gone in a bit more with making seafood & deserts that also can be made in the cooker. But considering that there are so few cookbooks for the As Seen On TV items, or for electric pressure cookers overall, this is a fair start for anyone that has bought a electric pressure cooker.Price: C+Displays & Content: B-Overall: C+

I've tried 3 recipes from this book. All 3 recipes were wrong, they ALL turned out incorrectly. I followed the recipes exactly. 2 were overdone, one to the point of being burned onto my cooker and inedible, the other salvaged with some extra liquid after the fact (so I basically had to cook it twice). The other was so underdone it took me over an hour of re-cooking it to get it right. The settings and timings are incorrect in the recipes. Example, one recipe told me to use the Soup/Stew setting for 8 minutes. The least amount of time available on this setting is 10 minutes. Another recipe told me to slow release the pressure in one sentence and the next sentence was to quick release the pressure. Yet another told me to use a setting that's not even on the device. Did anyone edit this book? Did anyone actually try the recipes before they printed this book? Is this book even for the Power Pressure Cooker XL or did they just slap that name on it? It was only $1, but I still want my money back! I certainly won't be using this book.

This cookbook had a lot of good and useful recipes to be made in the Power Pressure Cooker XL. It's hard to find any cookbooks that are specific to this pressure cooker (most are for the Instant Pot brand) and this is the best I've found so far. I would recommend.

So many recipes! Where to start. This is an excellent. Lol for beginners. I never knew all the things you could use this tool to do.

We got the cooker and cookbook to make meals in 15 minutes or less. There are virtually no meals you can make in less than 30-45 minutes. Meats needed to be seared in a pan or cooker prior to applying pressure. Very misleading . We returned both the book and the cooker.

Poorly organized. There is no index for finding recipes. The recipes don't sound very appealing to me and I was very disappointed with this purchase. I will probably never use this cookbook.

So not surprisingly I thought this book was a well written, well argued and engaging text about the western way of waging war, what has made western armed forces generally more successful when engaging in military actions against other cultures. He highlights 10 decisive battles in which in most cases, although outnumbered, on foreign ground with extended supply lines, western expeditionary forces from Alexander the Great to the British in South Africa to Cortez in Mexico were able to successfully rout the enemy.The standard answer for why the western way of war is so lethal and in the most part triumphant against other cultures is "superior technology". VDH digs deeper than that offering up the western liberal ethos of political freedoms, capitalism, individuality etc as underlying factors in western military campaigns.

Hanson is at once one of our most learned historians of world conflict and also one of its sharpest writers on its many small conflicts. This equips him well to address their meaning and significance. Those who flinch at the very idea of American (or most to the point Western) exceptionalism, will find their views powerfully challenged in Mr. Hanson's pages. By surveying battles from Salamis to Tet, with a stopover in the Zulu War and WWII's Battle of Midway, Hanson makes a convincing case that cultural norms such as consensual government, personal freedom, and independent intellectual inquiry, as they relate to a nation's ability to innovate, pay a dividend in history's vast colosseum of warfare. The results stand as a verdict on the merits of a culture. As technologized style of warfare becomes more deadly, the threat Hanson sees as most dangerous is not the primitive reprobates of ISIS blowing up cafes, but a wider war between powerful Western nations. Short of that, if our "rationalist tradition" can hold a peace (in the larger picture), we can hope that Western nations' talent for war will serve civilization rather than endanger it.On the whole an thoughtful, stimulating, eye-opening, conversation-starting book.

As always, Victor D. Hanson sets the record straight. This book covers several key military engagements throughout the history of western civilization. From ancient Greece to the Korean War. The basic purpose of this book is to attempt a rational explanation as to why western powers have always prevailed, even in defeat. Hansons' thesis is thoroughly proven. Could be read by a layman, but as always a basic understanding of history is helpful so as to not be overwhelmed by names & places. Still, one can get the point without the preface knowledge.

During the past six months, I have read two of VDH books and watched several of his appearances on Youtube. I have also read several of his shorter pieces on US politics, International Relations and Global Security. My background in the study of history and warfare is modest at best. However, many of his arguments and insights appear reasonable. They also cast an optimistic light on the future of the West, capitalism and republican democracies.The book "Carnage and Culture" is an excellent primer on conflicts. I highly recommend this book, in particular for it's analysis of "what the past can teach us". As I interpret it, for VDH the study of History is not only an end in itself, but can teach us much about the challenges we face today. There are similarities between conflicts in Greece and ancient Rome, and those faced today by the US in the Middle East. As an Argentine citizen, It was interesting to read (short) comments on the Falklands (Malvinas) 1982 conflict. VDH thesis on the superiority of the "West" (Great Britain) over Argentina appears validated on some (but not all) counts:(1) Superior fighting skills of a democracy over a "dictatorship" (military government)(2) The idea that "non-West" (¿¿Argentina??) combatants emphasize excellence in "single combat": this is probably validated by the substantial damage caused by Argentina Air Force and Naval pilots to GB fleet. This last point is not mentioned by VDH but I bring it to the attention of readers.(3) The miscalculation of the Military Junta on GB reaction possibly a consequence of the junta not understanding GB tradition in the "Western" way of war, as opposed to procrastination, negotiation, etc.The sinking of the ARA Belgrano in effect closed all negotiations, and resulted in a head to head battle.(4) Classical infantry approach to battle in Goose Green, Mount Longdon, Two Sister and Tumbledown, reminiscent of infantry battles of olden times. (5) Reading Argentine accounts of land battles, I find some support for VDH idea that free exchange of ideas in military forces of consensual governments contribute to success -- in some cases Argentine junior officers voice objections to strict "top down" command from higher-ups.However, I have some objections on VDH claim that Argentina had important advantages over GB, advantages that GB superior military skills were able to overcome:(1) The Malvinas are closer to Argentina than to GB, OK. But this not mean that Argentina had air superiority. On the contrary, Argentine planes flying from the continent had only minutes of autonomy over the islands. This was not the case for carrier-based Harrier jets.(2) GB received support from the US (last generation Sidewinder missiles, satelite intelligence). GB also receive substantiaal support from Chile (intelligence). Argentina had to hold in reserve in the Argentine-Chile border troops well adapted to cold weather.(3) From the sinking of the Belgrano onwards, the islands were effectively isolated: nuclear submarine made sea transport impossible. Supplies were carried with extreme difficulty, and in minuscule amounts by air. The Goose Greene garrison did not have 120 mm heavy mortars or field artillery. Several army contingents (such as the one in Gran Malvina) were in danger of running out of food (short rations resulted in "survival" mode, many of the troops losing significant weight).Summarizing, I am not sure whether "military excellence" per se was the defining factor in land battles, or a combination of excellence (professional soldiers of a First World NATO country vs conscript army of a less-developed economy), as well as considerably more abundant resources + help from US and Chile.Having said that, VDH book clearly illustrates the nature of war, and in the case of Malvinas is useful for understanding why what happened happened.

I love this book, recipes, pictures and stories. Definitely worth every penny. Cheapest price around. I highly recommend this book for anyone wishing to cook true Louisiana cuisine

Had to get it - Some of the best quick and easy home recipes from Telephone Company employees who come home after a long day of work and cook for their families and friends. Louisiana is all about Living to Eat, and the recipes in this book encourages that tradition.

Gwen McKee is one of my favorite cookbook authors and she has not failed with her latest effort. This truly is the "Best of the Best" if you're interested in Louisiana cooking. A great compilation of recipes and I would know....born, raised and stayed in Louisiana!

I have first two books and love them, being from the South I wish it had a wider variety of receipes. The pictures are nice, but I would recommend the prior books if you love to cook.

Our family recipe book is in this edition! I wanted to have a copy of this book for that reason.

The sheimp n grits and chicken and sausage gumbo rock!

Great cook book

Cooked the chicken sausage gumbo for Christmas Eve family gathering. Comments were "the best ever tasted." And we are live in Louisiana! Love the cookbook and so do the recipients we gave it to for Christmas.

I did my PhD in database in the early 80s. This book by W. Kent was around already and I heard about it but did not have a copy of it. Had I read the book, my research work would have been 10 times better. This current printing is the reprint of the original one. The author mentioned in the preface that he was asked to update the book but he didn't because he thought it was still up to date (and I absolutely agree).If you are in data modeling and database area, believe me, this is a must read. It is about the philosophy of data modeling and how data and reality are related. In my opinion, its content cannot be obsolete. It is technology independent. The concept of naming and identification alone is priceless for data modelers. I can't believe I have been working in the database area for more than 30 years without it.

This is an excellent introduction to the ambiguities that make designing a database difficult and some of the more philosophical aspects of designing databases. A lot of the historical detail is interesting for modern practitioners. I would strongly recommend trying to obtain an edition of this book other than the "third edition" which has been significantly modified by Steve Hoberman. I am in complete agreement with this review (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/customer-reviews/RZUKQF8JV7DM3/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=1935504215). I would recommend attempting to get hold of an older edition, like this one, while emailing Penguin asking them for a new edition of the original book.

This book does bring a sense of "reality" to data and data modeling. The author provides a fresh perspective on data and data modeling without being dogmatic about which way is the best way to represent data. He exposes some of the subtle but critical factors which everyone working with data needs.His exposure and description of relationships and how to address them was enlightening.

Really interesting conceptual look at data modeling and defining entities

Some very important considerations for data modeling. Clearly explained with lots of good examples. William Kent does an excellent job of delving into the philosophy but always pointing back to the need to keep things practical for your use case. This will change the way you think about data and how it is represented.

Very helpful in understanding issues related to representing reality in machine-readable form.

I found this book following a reference from a Martin Fowler book.It's been a while since I read it, very interesting discourse on modelling data.

A study group book. Good discussion but everyone pretty much agreed it was too vague and out of date.
