Amazon shows this as an "updated" version of the South Beach Diet, but it has nothing to do with cardiologist Dr. Arthur Agatston, as far as I saw. It lacks all the vital information on the rationale behind Dr. Agatston's diet and the principles that you can use to improve your health and lose weight by changing what you eat. Dr. Agatston's book changed a lot of people's lives. This book is just a cookbook and therefore nowhere nearly as useful as the "real" South Beach Diet books. This one sounds like it's an update of the original South Beaach Diet. It's not. It's just a disappointment. I returned it.

Because this book said the complete guide, I believed it would explain the three different phases thoroughly. These phases were reviewed but there was no information as to what to eat during them. The recipes contained in this book contain sugar. One recipe which feeds 2-3 servings has three (3) cups of sugar. When I saw this I reviewed this diet without going to the actual site. Refined sugar is on the DO NOT EAT list.

A lot of the recipes do NOT make sense since ingredients and recipe do not match! One recipe on smoked salmon sandwich then replaced salmon with ham half the way. And it is not just one occasion. Moreover it is NOT the Southbeach diet, just stick with the author. This one is a joke!

This book is great for anyone who wants to jump start a healthy life style....bought it for my Dad, he loves it and is losing unwanted pounds and feeling great. My younger teenage cousin who is overweight also has started reading the book and doing the diet, and also has lost a significant amount of weight considering the short amount of time she has been doing it. So I love this book........it may be tough to follow the diet at first but its worth it.

If you know anything about the South Beach Diet, you know that this book in no way approximates the plan. Recipes calling for 5 tablespoons of sugar, 5 Hard French rolls, a pound of linguine (whole grain not specified) are included in the recipes all of which are to be avoided even in Phase 3.
