In this third Pen Pieyu adventure, the King of Longstride Castle once again is determined to coerce his daughter Petra to give up all this silly Knight nonsense and become a traditional frilly-type Princess. To this end, he contrives a cockamamie Mission that she must complete else she will lose her Knighthood. Knowing full well that the King’s Rule Book is filled with arbitrary rules that he hopes will be her downfall, Petra is undeterred. This time Sir Princess Petra must travel to the Land of the Boogy Gobees and capture the dreadedCar-panther. There is no way that she will allow the King to sabotage her Knight status, so Petra embarks on a journey that will be filled with surprises and serendipitous encounters. And, of course, our feisty and resourceful little heroine, and her loyal friends, overcome all odds.Once again, author Diane M. Robinson has invented a charming and fanciful story that also contains gently-placed ethical and moral principals. Along with creating characters that are engaging and self-confident, she instills in them honor in doing what is right and not just what is expedient and self serving. I enjoyed mostly in this adventure an elegant tribute to the importance of “tree souls†to the planet and its inhabitants, skillfully enveloped in the books plot line. So, I won’t spoil the delightful, clever ending. Just know that she wins on a technicality, which is often how justice happens in real life!Sir Princess Petra's Mission: The Pen Pieyu Adventures
This book is a great read not only for kids, but also adults with a sense of humor. If you are familiar with the title character, she has decided to become a knight instead of just being the princess that she was born to be. This is much to the chagrin of her father, who keeps coming up with ways to discourage his daughter so she will do what he wants her to. This time it is no different, as he sends her on a new quest, which he thinks is impossible. However, as you can imagine, a young and determined knight can accomplish a lot more than people think, and failing isn’t really an option. The story overall is interesting and fun, especially with the funny names for places and people. This is a great series to try if you have a young reader, or you need something fresh to read with your kids. It is a clean story with a spunky heroine that meets friends wherever she goes.
This knighted princess has done much to keep her knighthood, and works hard to help others. It is an excellent read for the preteen crowd. Short so that their attention doesn't begin to wonder. She is guided by the silly rules her father, the King, has written and works her way around them to ensure justice is done for all, not just those able to pay their way out of trouble. She hangs out with a dragon instead of doing more lady like tasks such as embroidery. There are a few fun twists in the story, and alls well that ends well.
What a fun story! I enjoyed the fun names of the characters and places. I love the dragon, Snarls! The author does a great job of weaving adventure with fun and an important lesson of doing what is right even when it could really cost you. I highly recommend this book! 5 Stars
What do you get when you combine an award winning author and an exciting adventure? An awesome tale of humour, heroism and fun, that's what. All rolled up with great illustrations in this enchanting children's novel.Sir Princess Petra's Mission is book 3 in the series about a princess who would rather mess about with dragons than do embroidery (I'm with her on that score!).This was the first book in the series I have read and while it is easy to read as a stand alone, I would recommend reading the series as well. So my first impressions were: I love the illustrations and the cool page borders; the hand drawn map was simplistic, but it looks like something the princess would have drawn, so that suits the story. The large print and short chapters were great for engaging young readers. My main issue was having to wade through to page 28 to get to the story. Maybe some of those endorsements could be moved to the back.I enjoyed the names such as 'Boogey Gobees' and 'Prince Norton Nastybum' and my favourite saying is 'Thanks the crab gods!' 'I am glorious with hobnobbyish delight' is phrase I will endeavour to utilise more often myself in every day conversation. ;-) I love the way Snarls is sarcastic and funny and he gives PP a reality check after her below-par singing.I do wonder the cause of the national obsession with onions. Ewww! Breath mints must be in constant use there. I was rather more amused by the food fight, for that is a much more worthy tradition in my humble opinion. So, I would recommend you suck on an onion (actually that bit is optional), but definitely go out and grab a copy of Sir Princess Petra's Mission and help solve the mystery of the 'car-panthers.'Thanks to the author for sending me a copy of this entertaining book to review. Recommended for readers aged 8-12. 4.5 stars
