There are frequent omissions and a lot of generic stuff common to all Chilton/Haynes manuals. There just aren't reasonably priced alternatives nearly as good. it's essentially the same as the Haynes with the biggest difference being the cover. Even if you don't do your own work, if you own a car it is worth having a manual just to understand what is under the sheet metal and when you are being treated like an idiot by a "service writer". Some of those guys are even paid on commission, which does not always end well for the car owner. Unfortunately more and more of these manuals omit whole sections as "being beyond the scope of a home shop mechanic"., for example automatic transmissions. In most case they are right and it is a disaster to take one apart yourself. It just makes it harder for whoever you wind up paying to fix it to find all the pieces.Even so, it would be very nice to know what is inside, just to know how it works. So a 3 star rating really is one and five.As a general rule I buy the latest manual for my generation with the narrowest year range. I avoided a 76 through 93 because the 76 through 86 CJ material crowded out details for the YJ 87 through 95 production also the manual ending in 93 didn't cover the fuel injection as well as the 1987-1995, a lot being developed in those last two years of production. The 87 through 2008 by including the first 13 years of TJ production (1997- 2008) being a whole new generation just taking up space. (the jeeps built in 1996 were called 1997 models so there really aren't any 1996 models)At least in theory the 1987 through 1995 Chilton is a better bet than the 1994 Haynes, covering that additional year, But in truth I have both and haven't yet found a significant difference.
Had a faulty electrical circuit, wasn't sure if it was the dealer add on, or factory equipment. Was able to trace out the wires and track down the problem.
It's great to see that I got this item being it is old and will help me maintain my 95 that I just bought to drive thru one of the harshest winters I've seen in 20 years. If you are looking at a YJ it's worth having one. Take it from this engineer!
