We use this series while homeschooling our first grader. The material is arranged in a way that you can cover it broadly or in great detail...this is important when buying for homeschooling. We can use the same book for a broad-stroke approach to introduce the subject in first grade and then use the same book for more in depth study in later grades. Great value, great info!

When I first saw this book for sale on the net, I was curious about it. When I received it, I was pleasantly surprised. This small book contains a great deal of information on the war for independence. Most books on this period in american history, tend to be maps and words. But this book showed example after example of the period. I found this very enjoable, and knowledgeable. People looking at this small book, should not sell it short. JRV

I picked this book with the other books in this series out as a birthday gift for my grandson. He has become very interested in history. He also has expressed interest in the military and American Wars. My wife is a retired school teacher and stated that she was familiar with this book series. She stated that it was an excellent book for a youth learning experience. But the next important thing is he was beyond excited when realized what it was.

This book is intended for the younger reader. It tells of the American Revolution in very broad strokes. It acts as an introduction in the most important period in the development of the United States. Much of the American Revolution, the buildup to it and what takes place after Yorktown are slowly being shrink wrapped into oblivion. In a few more decades, the entire period from 1756 to 1816 will be but a few paragraphs in our American History drama.What makes this book special is not only the written word but the beautiful pictures of the events. The younger mind will be attracted to the color of the prints and hopefully encouraged to read the smaller print as well. It is not long in content nor is it great in number of pages. But it certainly makes a great first impression which might lead the reader to investigate this marvelous time in our history in greater detail.I would recommend it as a coffee table book. Its size, format and colors will lead an observer to investigate between the pages. If we can simply tweak the reader's interest, I think he (she) will read on at an early age. This is the book I would like to see in doctor's offices as well as ballet parlors. Every library in grade school should have several copies and feature it on the "must read" lists. History teachers should make it part of their personal library. And every American should treat themselves to the birth of our nation in such simple and colorful terms.

This is an interesting book filled with a lot of information about the Revolutionary War. I bought several for my grandchildren and although it is geared for a younger reader, the pictures made it very appealing and I wished I had kept one for myself.

OMGoodness. I FINALLY found time to sit and read through this new book Easy Keto Desserts. (I bought the Kindle Version, I always buy Kindle Version books, but I MAY also order the hard copy too!). This book is DA-BOMB! First of all...READ the whole first part (before the recipes)...SO much good information! I have been doing LCHF for 11 months, and it's been HARD! I got fat and pre-diabetic by eating...you guessed it...DESSERTS! So, when I went LCHF, I tried to go "cold turkey" and cut out all desserts and sweets. (Many people say that is the way to go). Well, I couldn't do it. Of course, technically I COULD do it, but I missed my sweets and was miserable. Then I found All Day I Dream About Food.com. There are a handful of other good websites too, but Carolyn's is hands down THE BEST one I've found. This cookbook looks like it will be just an extension of that greatness. Oh, and the last part of the book where Carolyn tells how to rescue mistakes is PRICELESS. I never, ever thought of doing anything with my many ruined low carb baking attempts (but never have I had a recipe from Carolyn's other cookbooks or from her website fail) So, Carolyn...whatever you are paying yourself, double it. Whatever you are charging for your cookbooks...double it. You've made LCHF very possible for me, and for that, I TRULY thank you. (and just FYI, I was prediabetic when I started, now my A1C is much lower (in the middle of the "normal" range") and my Endocrinologist told me that I have the "labs of a runner". I'm 54, and slowly but surely I'm losing weight, and my blood sugars are totally fine now...no diabetes for me!

I have NEVER written a review for any cookbook but boy I must stop and write one for this. The cookbook is so elegantly put together. There is a picture for EVERY recipe. The pictures are beautiful. I can’t wait to start baking!!!!!

Carolyn does it again!!! I now have all three of Carolyn's books and I love them all so much I also have them on Kindle so I can plan my menu and have my shopping list at all times. This cook book follows suit with her other two books. Beautiful pictures, super easy to follow directions and all of her recipes in her book give all the macros! There are a lot of dairy free options in the book too. This book too is the epitome of easy! Most of these recipes can be whipped up in no time when you are craving a treat! My whole family is Keto so giving them desserts is very important in order to keep them happy and this book makes them very happy! My son and daughter have already looked through this and have lots of requests! So into the kitchen I go!!

Carolyn Ketchum does the BEST desserts! It's how I found her blog in the first place. If your low carbing and your missing desserts, here's the book for you. I can't wait to try the butterscotch pudding and the butter cake. I know if I need a dessert for a special occasion I can always count on a "Carolyn recipe" to come through. Mary Hoffman never disappoints! Great story, great characters, and a great ending! She brings back plots and characters from previous books without making the story repetitive or boring. HIGHLY recommended.

You need to read the entire series(6 books). Once I started I just couldn't put it down. I am a middle school librarian and have recommended it to all my students, but also to adults as well who just enjoy reading.

Isabel always feels like the runner up when it comes to her and her brother. She's not as smart, athletic, or popular as him. When she falls asleep with mosaic tiles she found in an italian style bag at school and suddenly wakes up in Classe, a Talian town, all that changes. Classe is in danger of being attacked and it seems Isabel is the only one who can save them.You know those books that stay with you, even when you've closed them for the night? 'City of Ships' by Mary Hoffman is a perfect example of a book that does just that. 'City of Ships' is written drastically different from the other books in the Stravaganza series.With the number of London based Stravaganti growing, the story is based as equally in Talia as it is the real world. This change, while startling at first, made for an interesting look at the current Stravaganti in London. I couldn't imagine having the power to go from Talia each night and not have it effect regular, daily life. It was nice to see the relationships between those who have traveled to Talia and how those travelers related to those who haven't traveled to Talia. And, I have to say, I always get a kick out of when the old Stavaganti figure out who the 'current' one is (in this case Isabel), leaving the 'current' Stravaganti to figure out why they're so interesting all of a sudden. It still makes me smile. And that little bit of romance between Isabel and another Stravaganti? Loved it.Isabel wasn't annoying. Quite the opposite, I liked her perspective. She could have come off as whiny, as characters usually do when jealous of a sibling, but she doesn't. She has quite a grown up air to herself, actually.As always, the characters in Talia are fantastic. Flavia and her son, the rogue pirate Andrea, were engaging characters. I almost suspected some sort of romantic storyline between Isabel and Andrea, but we'll see what happens with that in future books. (Though I doubt anything will now!)I found the story to be a little less focused on Isabel's 'issue at hand', in this case her feeling second fiddle to her twin brother, but still enjoyed the storyline for this fifth installment of the Stravaganza series. The role her brother did end up playing in the story was unexpected and very different from something typically found in this series. I did find some odd loose ends in this novel. I'd like to see what comes of Flavia's son and Isabeb's pirate friend Andrea. And also, the biggest question on my mind after finishing: what did Luciano's mother want to tell her son? It's probably nothing big or surprising, but I want to know! Seriously, I'm waiting for the day when the Mulholland's travel to Talia to see him, to perhaps see a wedding or at least meet Arianna.I really enjoyed 'City of Ships'. I loved the friendships, the hints of romance, and Talia in general. This series as a whole is one of those that everyone should read. So, if you haven't picked up this series yet, check it out!!!

This is an informative little book written in a very readable style, in which a "foreigner" can learn quite a bit about German behavior, attitudes and customs. Not surprisingly, the less you already know about life in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, the more useful it is.One thing I don't much like is that the 77 brief articles are listed in alphabetical order by title, instead of by subjects or themes. Shouldn't "At the table" (6) and "Dining" (21) be grouped together instead of appearing 25 pages apart? And why not put something like "Greetings and common courtesies" (36) at the beginning of the book?Another problem is that some of the information has become dated. The introduction of the Euro has pretty much killed the discussion on currency, for example, and the abolition of customs and passport controls among the EU countries has advanced considerably since the book was published. The same is true for things like store opening hours and rules about having sales and giving discounts. These things are inevitable, of course, but they do affect the usefulness of the book.Nevertheless, this is an entertaining way to learn more about the people who live in the German-speaking countries of Europe, and it even boasts some humor. My favorite line is: "On a sweltering train the window remains closed because Germans seem to think that a draft will kill you quicker than heat prostration." How true!!

This is an excellent book covering many interesting topics that should be useful for those who are traveling there for their first time or their 15th time. It is all arranged very conveniently, alphabetically. Even though I have been there several times, there were many things I still learned. It is not meant to be an encyclopedia, but it is a very handy resource that I highly recommend. I love Germany and Austria, the people are very friendly, and this explains what to expect from business meetings to dining out to the grocery store, and everything in-between. Have a wonderful time, but read this first, and bring it with you as a handy resource.

I lived in Germany for over three years. My German acquaintances in general liked Americans; but they greatly disliked our cultural ignorance. I also did part-time work as a tour guide and a portion of "tour guiding" is to educate people on the culture, and saw the extent of this ignorance first-hand. While German/Austrian/Swiss society is in a "big picture" sense similar to American, (guilt vs shame-based culture, individuality vs collectivism) there are major differences in personal and business relationships. Anyone who really wants to know Germany or succeed in business dealings with Germans ignores these differences at their peril. This book does an outstanding job of clearly explaining all aspects of German society from Government through economy, consumerism, to social relationships. It also spells out the contrasts between German and American ways of thinking, and between German and Austrian/Swiss world-views. Bottom line is if you want a better vacation experience in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, a better business trip, or are just interested in other cultures, get this book.

This slim volume presents dozens of aspects of German culture. For example, why do Germans value privacy? Why do they always close windows when they feel a draft? I definitely learned a lot from this book. My only complaints is that it could have gone a little more in depth about the causes of German behavior. Also, this book is a little out of date. It was published in the 90's, so there is a lot of talk about Marks rather than Euros, and you read a lot about the reunification of Germany, which is not as hot a topic as it was in the 90's. Even with these weak points, I think you'll be able to learn a lot. I wish that the author would release a more up-to-date version, though.

Wow! I had many confirmations re: some aspects of the German people and gained an understanding of many more. This was a quick read, well worth the effort to gain understanding of a people group....for me, both ancestors and current friends.

This book is loaded with pertinent details, and the information is presented in a readable, interesting style. The book is well organized so that you can use it to reference particular subjects, like dining, public transportation, the government, etc., or you can read it like a book, chapter by chapter. Very well done. Inside Germany would have been a great title too! I discovered many new things that should have been apparent to someone who has lived in Germany as long as I have.

I love this book! I am taking a German language class just for the fun of it, and I have since become more interested in Germany and German culture. This book is very interesting and has quite a bit of factual material. It is organized well (alphabetically by subject), and each section is short enough to read a few at a time, or a section or two while waiting in line or on my lunch break. The material presented is fascinating and gives you a look at a culture that appears similar to our own on the outside, but on the inside has many differences, and just as many 'idiosyncrasies' as our American culture.

I bought this before my first trip to Germany. I found it interesting and very useful. It always helps to understand another culture and avoid making unintentional faux pas.

EASILY could be a 5/5. Definately 4.5/5. I'm just tired of Zombie knowledge. Although, author says replace Zombies with any creature you want: robots, aliens etc. Its more about knowledge to create. Worth the investment!

As a budding horror writer, this book is a font of helpful information! I will be using it quite a lot in the future.

Excellent book! Thorough view on all aspects of the apocalypse. Great for writers who need world building and plotting. I highly recommend.
